May we enjoy and use wisely what God has provided for us.  This page contains a list of common herbs and their uses.  It is not a comprehensive list of all herbs, only a intro guide to alternative medicine and alternative health.

Ephedra
(Ma huang)

depression, decrease appetite

Do not take if you have Diabetes,
heart disease, thyroid disease,
anxiety attacks, glaucoma, high
blood pressure or taking monoamine
oxidase inhibitor drugs

Eyebright

eyewash, hay fever, allergies,
eyestrain, itchy and watery eyes

 

Feverfew

migraine headaches, pain, menstrual problems,
nausea, vomiting, arthritis, fever

Not to be taken by pregnant women
Do not use if taking over the counter pain
medication or blood thinning prescription
drugs due to danger of internal bleeding

Garlic

heart disease, ulcers, disease
infection, cancer, arthritis, digestion,
liver , blood circulation

Do not use if taking anticoagulant medicine

Gingko biloba

Alzheimer's disease, dementia, brain function,
asthma, eczema, headaches, circulation,
impotence

Do not use if you are taking over
the counter pain medication or blood-
thinning presciption medicine due to
risk of internal bleeding

Ginseng

reproductive system, immune system, diabetes
circulation

Do not use if you have asthma, insomnia,

Goldenseal

Green Tea

Licorice

Do not use if you have diabetes,

Do Not use daily for more than 7 days,
may cause high blood pressure and low potassium

Milk Thistle

protects liver, kidneys, gallbladder,
liver disorders, prostate cancer,
breast cancer, immune system

 

Parsley

Pau d'arco

St John's Wort

Do not use if taking anti-depressants

Saw Palmetto

prostate, sexual functioning, appetite stimulant

 

Tea tree oil

insect bites, warts, earache, athlete's foot

Wild Oregano
(origanum vulgare)

Wormwood

internally-worms, fever, migraine, liver, galbladder

Not for pregnant women, can cause abortion
Not for long term use, habit forming

Yohimbe

sexual functioning in men

Not for women
Not for people who have high blood pressure,
heart,liver, or kidney disease, or mental disorder.
May cause panic attacks, anxiety, hallucinations
May elevate blood pressure, heart rate
May induce headache, dizziness
Do not mix with these types of foods:
cheese, red wine, liver
